What pisses me off
Granted many jews were slaughtered during the holocaust..but MY gripe is where are the other 17 million of many other types of humans accounted for EVERY DAY and in EVERYWAY as the jews are accounted for?
23 million humans were killed by the NAZIS and this figure includes the jews.
Good Point for Sure
I don't know if your figure is correct with 17 million, but I would not doubt it. And yes, it is said that 6 millions Jews died.... the rest could include a variety of people including gypsies, homosexuals, people who just didn't look German, people belonging to other religions, etc. Hitler's MAIN goal however was to eradicate Jews; genocide on an entire people; this is why it got the main attention. Yes, others died, but they belonged to so many unidentifiable groups and this is why more attention was not placed on them. But, did you know that muslims worship Hitler.... Gosh, I wonder why... they hate jews and gays and anyone who is not them.... that should be a concern going forward. This type of atrocity should never happen again... wait, it is, in Islam. In Islam, jews, women, infidels... everyone is hated and murdered.
Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by the rulers as useful.
NAZIS RESPONSIBLE FOR 23 million deaths are recorded, also.
This link says 11 million but there are other links confirming 23 million in table form that list those people who were annihilated by that Nazi screwball.

Of the 11 million people killed during the Holocaust, six million were Polish citizens. Three million were Polish Jews and another three million were Polish Christians and Catholics.
Most of the remaining mortal victims were from other countries including Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Ukraine, Russia, Holland, France and even Germany.
Yes, I agree, the Nazis were horrible!
Okay, I did not know this figure and thanks for sharing with me. And yes, the other murder victims of the tiny Nazi German terror should be recognized, but I still believe that his main goal and effort was in eradicating the Jews. That was his message and I believe a majority were Jews or citizens he believed to be Jews, even if they were not; innocents caught in the cross-fire of sorts.
When you say of the 11 million (which the conspiracy theorists will say only 770,000 or 1.5 million Jews were killed), you say three millions were polish jews and six million were just "plain" polish citizens who were not jews? I would want to clarify this. Were they not aligned with judiaism? And, when you mention those other countries, are you also saying he killed just because of their citizenship of that country? I can believe this too. What was Hitler's reason for killing these people? I can think of many reasons.
I think the reason the general public does not hear much of the other victims is that there is no one representative for these groups as they are so general and non-descript. The Jews are the Jews.... many stories, one religion.
And yes, Russians died, the French died, etc. etc. They were casualties of the war, period. If the French want to make a documentary about the loss of their citizens, they should, right? The Jews speak up. If nobody else does, then that is their fault... agreed? Anyone can make a documentary.

Well duh
Of course there were lots of other people killed by the Nazis. Well DUH.
*Millions of soldiers and civilians on the allied side, in particular on the Russian Front.
*Jehovah's Witnesses
*Roma (gypsies)
*Mentally disabled
*Physically handicapped
*Slavs
*Homosexuals
and so on. Of course, this is true, and everyone knows this, or should know this, if they have half a clue.
There are several factors that contribute to the uniqueness of the treatment of Jews by the Nazis, including:
*Jews were targeted by the Nazis for years before the "Final Solution" was implemented
*antisemitism figures prominently in Mein Kampf. Does Mein Kampf devote a lot of text to discussions about Roma or Jehovah's Witnesses? I doubt it.
*Before World War II, most of the Jews in the world lived in Europe. So many were killed in the Holocaust (or driven out of Europe), that for decades afterwards, the US had more Jews than anyplace else, including Israel. A much larger fraction of Jews were killed in the Holocaust than other targeted groups, I would be willing to bet.
*The Holocaust was just an escalation of previous attacks on Jews in Europe. For example, were there pogroms against non-Jewish Slavs? Homosexuals? I don't think so. Was the Inquisition focused on attacks against the mentally retarded? I do not believe it.
